Hi my name is Mat Huffman, I have been a Deputy Sheriff with Stanislaus County for nine years.  I am assigned to the Adult Detention Division.  In my time with the Department I have worked at all three Adult Detention Facilities, have been an Facility Training Officer, I have worked the Modesto City Inmate Roadside Work Crew program Deputy position, I am a member of the Department’s Recruitment Team and I am currently assigned to the Adult Detention Narcotics K-9 Deputy position.

My K-9’s name is Pico, he is a three-year-old Belgian Malinois, and I have been working with Pico since November of 2006.  In that time Pico has participated in over 250 sniffs and has recovered 177 items of contraband, one being over one pound of Marijuana at our Men’s Honor Farm Facility.  In addition to all the sniffs Pico has done he has also done several Narcotic K-9 Demonstrations at schools and community events, like Airport Day, Red Ribbon Week, Stanislaus County Safety & Job Fairs and Rotary events.

Pico’s favorite thing to do is work, but his favorite hobby is running.  His nickname is “The Wild Ferret.”
