Barry Ballance has been a police officer for the past 20 years. During his carrier he has held assignments as a Field Training Officer and Hazardous Materials Technician. He is current assigned to patrol along with his partner K9 Sergo. He is also a member of the Sheriff’s Departments Bomb Squad.

K9 Sergo was born April 14, 2000 in Germany. He was raised and trained in Germany. K9 Sergo competed in Schutzhand competition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schutzhund), obtaining a Schutzhand 3 rating. He was brought to the United States in late 2004 where he was tested and purchased by our Department. Sense joining the Department, K9 Sergo has added Drug Detection to his list of expertise. He is also capable of tracking, building searches, areas searches and apprehending fleeing suspects.

K9 Sergo competes every year in the Western States sponsored K9 Trials. These events are held through out northern California at various Departments. K9 Sergo regularly finishes with in the upper 10. In 2005 K9 Sergo finished 3rd overall in competition. He placed 2nd overall in 2006.

K9 Sergo says, “I enjoy taking a bite of crime”.
